Managing Skin Microclimate and Pressure Damage with a Low Air Loss Mattress

💦 Increased skin moisture contributes to skin breakdown (1) and can lead to damage by external forces (2).

For service-users that are at very high-risk of developing a pressure ulcer and have other conditions that contribute to heat and moisture build-up on their skin, a low air loss mattress can be an effective solution for managing the microclimate (moisture and heat between their skin and the support surface) and pressure distribution.

The Aura II Low Air Loss mattress system, designed and manufactured by Apollo Healthcare Technologies Ltd is specifically for people at very high risk of pressure damage or with existing tissue injury.

It combines full immersion to reduce prolonged loading with advanced microclimate control to help reduce heat and moisture at the skin surface.

It is particularly suitable for patients who cannot tolerate alternating therapy and gives clinicians a choice of Alternating, Pulsate and Static modes.

The alternating and pulsate modes help to prevent and treat pressure ulcers by regularly shifting support pressure and stimulating blood flow.
